Fancy Catching Something Slightly Different? How About an Angler Fish?

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Suzanne Hodnett The true Angler Fish lives in both shallow and deep water and there is regularly confusion over their identity as either Angler Fish or Monkfish. It is more a case that there is more than one variety of both and at some point the two species cross over. Some Angler Fish can legitimately be called Monkfish and vice versa, but then again, there are some Monkfish (although equally entitled to the name) which are actually from the Shark family. To go into that further would involve getting into the Latin names of the species which I’m not going to do here! It is not the sort of fish that most people target but more the type that you would happen upon by accident when fishing for Flatties. They’re prefered habitat is a sandy/mud seabed but gravel or shell beds also offer much of an attraction where they eat anything in their path, especially smaller fish and shellfish. Their enormous mouths are adorned with large, extremely sharp and backwards facing teeth and they even have teeth in their throats so as to stop their prey from escaping until it has been safely swallowed. It is, therefore, advisable to use a wire rig when targeting Angler Fish! A good rig to use would be the standard paternoster or flapper rig with a grip lead as an anchor on the bottom and a flowing hook trace of about 3-4 feet. This allows the bait to move freely and naturally just above the seabed giving a great presentation and covering a wider area. Good baits to try would be baitfish such as Launce, Sandeel or a strip of Mackerel, Shellfish or Squid. Use a strong forged hook. Scotland is a good place for Angler Fish including marks such as the islands of the Firth of Forth and the Summer Isles. Also, the offshore reefs around Wales, many areas within the Irish Channel and around the Isle of Man, and the northern and southern coasts of Devon and Cornwall. If you catch an Angler Fish, it is advised that you operate a catch and release system as the Angler Fish has been suffering from a certain amount of overfishing due to its lovely flavour. Although it is only the tail of this fish which can be eaten the taste has been likened to lobster and they are sometimes used as mock scampi. We would definitely recommend that you release any Angler Fish to fight another day! SeaFishingSupplies.co.uk is a secure online tackle shop specific to UK sea fishing. Relationship Advice: 5 Relationship Destroyers and What to Do About Them

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Shuford Davis Anger: Either passive or aggressive anger hurts. Underground anger that does things to sabotage the other person or seeks revenge is not overt but still hurts and destroys. The tongue can be a verbal fist used to deliver a knockout punch. Sarcasm by definition means to rip the flesh as to inflict severe pain. If you want to destroy your relationship, keep it up. Withdrawal: Silence, pouting, leaving the room, leaving the house, stop hugging or other types of affection all say, Im pissed and Im punishing you. Asking whats wrong often leads to the nothing response, but we know by the tone we are in deep do. Sometimes withdrawal is OK to cool off, but prolonged emotional distance is a bad sign for most relationships. Abuse: Verbal abuse takes the form of demeaning words, comparisons, profanity, accusations all with the purpose of putting the other person down, or manipulating them into right behavior with a verbal barrage. Physical abuse is grabbing, choking, hitting, throwing the person or throwing objects at the person. Most physical abusers are control freaks who are jealous, accusatory and totally hypocritical because they are often doing the thing they accuse their spouse of namely messing around. Emotional abuse takes many forms from demeaning words to lower self esteem, to false accusations to keep the spouse on the defensive, to attacks on ones family of origin, to threats of harm to self or children, to a promise of financial or reputation ruin. You know when you are emotionally abused its when you have to chose your words carefully so as not upset your spouse for fear of what will be said to you or to or in front of children. Sexual abuse can and does occur within relationships. Forcing sex when one partner does not want it is rape. Forcing sexual behaviors which are personally unacceptable such as swapping is abusive. Cheating: Affairs are rationalized in many ways. They destroy trust and respect. It takes a long time to rebuild those feelings. See all the articles on affairs. Selfishness: If you are in a relationship with a selfish person you have to love a small package. Its all about them. They are not very good spouses or parents. Sometimes they can appear to be a good parent, even adored by their children, because the narcissistic child in them makes for a good playmate for a while. As kids get older the lies and broken promises add up and they figure out the parent is selfish. How to Search American Census Records

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Paul Duxbury Census records may be the single most utilized search tool online for family tree research. From 1930 back to the founding of the country, the records of every census are available online. By using census records you may be able to trace your family tree back to when your ancestors first came to America. Whether they were immigrants who came ashore at Ellis Island, or were here to fight the British during the Revolution, the census records may well show you a piece of their lives. Census records are available online and have truly aided the search of the genealogist, whether amateur or professional, since their introduction. Using the combined power of the internet, high speed computers, and the extensive research of the federal government, all at your fingertips can make research a breeze. When searching census records, there are several things to remember. First, have a good idea of alternative spellings of your family name. Many family names had the spelling changed to make the names seem more American, and help the individuals blend into American society without standing out, with what seemed like foreign sounding names. Other names were changed because the immigration officials made typographical errors, or could not spell or pronounce the names involved. And many names simply had multiple spellings that were all considered correct at the time, especially since so many people didnt read or write at the time. Also, trying to decipher other peoples handwriting can cause anyone problems. A person may make an r that looks like an n or any one of dozens of other mistakes from bad handwriting. With that in mind, know all of the alternative spellings. Next, make a list of all of the family names you are looking for, and all of the information you have relevant to the ancestors you want to learn about. Keep this information in a notebook handy, or in an online data base. And be prepared to write in the notebook or add to the data base as you acquire more information. When making a list of names, remember that Smith for instance is sometimes written at Smithe, or Smythe. Johnson can be Johnston or Jonson. Madux can be Maddux or Maddox. Know the combinations and alternatives and you will aid your search. After that, know what states your ancestors were probably living in. If your ancestor lived in New Jersey that is the census you want to check out, not New York. And know the geography. If you cant find your ancestor in New Jersey, but believe he was in the area at the time, then New York as an adjourning state is the next place to check, followed by Pennsylvania and all of the other states in the area where the ancestor could have lived. Know something about the spouses and the spousal families. If you cant find your great, great, great grandfather, but you know whom he married, then you can check out the spouses family and perhaps find some information there. The more information you have to start with in your research, the better for you, the more extensive the research will be, and the less time it will take. Then have a good idea of the time period in which the ancestor lived. If your ancestor lived in New York in 1900, then that is the first census to check. Then checking the 1890 and 1910 census records will help determine when he moved there and when he left. But, there is no need to check the 1920 census or the 1880 census if the time periods dont match. There has never been a better time in history to do genealogical research for many reasons, one of the main ones being census records availability online. Other things that help the genealogical researcher these days include the popularity of the hobby, the abundance of good software to help in the research, and the Internet itself. With the Internet it is possible to find online chat rooms, groups, message forums and other places to meet like minded people researching their own families. And as these things go, many people start their research on one branch of their own family and then tie into other branches, tying into other peoples research, and helping everyone along the way. The Truth About Geraniums

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Jody Taberner A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. But would there be confusion on what plant you are talking about? There is with Geraniums. Does the idea of a Geranium conjure up an image of a quaint Greek fishing village with window boxes planted out with pillar box red flowers? Guess what, they aren’t really Geraniums. They are Pelargonium zonale hybrids. Ok, so most people know them as Geraniums, and they are both in the family Geraniaceae , I will give you that. But it is probably going to be a long time before we can get everyone in the gardening community to understand that Geraniums are a distinct genus from Zonale Pelargoniums. Even Linnaeus (who invented the plant classification system that we use) put Pelargonium spp. and Geranium spp. together in the same genus originally, along with another genus Erodium spp. It wasn’t until 1789 that the classification of these distinct genuses was changed in an article published in a Horticultural Journal by William Aiton. True Geraniums ( Geranium spp.) , are probably best known commonly as Cranesbills. They can look similar to many of the scented leafed Pelargoniums. The biggest difference is that True Geraniums tend to be herbaceous, with finer stems, rather than having rigid stems like a small shrub and most of the Pelargoniums. There are hundreds of species of True Geraniums found natively in many parts of the world. Europe is the home to the Dusky Cranesbill (Geranium phaeum) , that is also known as the Mourning Widow due to its maroon-black flowers. It grows to around 1m x 1m. It is a most unusual flower colour to add to the garden. Australia has the Geranium retrorsum , the Grassland Cranesbill. A low, scrambling plant that can grow to 1m across. It has dainty little pink flowers. It is not commonly found in cultivation, but can be found in the wild across Victoria , NSW and South Australia . Asia and Europe share the Meadow Cranesbill (Geranium pratense) . Which as the name suggests is found in open, sunny positions. These flowers are a pale, bluish-mauve. The next time you go to your local nursery and see a plant labelled Geranium, just have a second look to see what it really is, and smile to yourself wisely that you know what it really is. If the Bible Says It, I Believe It, That Does It For Me - With Permission, Animals Can Talk!

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Dennis Diehl You gotta admit, the Bible has some great stories in it. As a child I thought a lot about these stories wondering how they could happen, but since it was the Bible and written by God himself over a long weekend, I never thought they might not have happened. From a talking snake in the Garden of Eden, to a guy named Jonah who spent three days and three nights in the belly of a great fish, whew…it was all very cool stuff. I always pictured Jonah sitting in the fish’s stomach on a three legged stool swallowed earlier in the day, around a small fire that he built to sit around and think of just how he got into this mess. I loved imagining how it must have felt to get puked up on the shore, but never wondered how the whale got close enough to get him on the beach. I guess it was projectile vomiting or something like that on the part of the fish. You know, kinda like the guy shot out of a cannon. Anyway, great story and it was a reminder to me that if you are ever on a cruise, don’t piss off the crew, but was taught that it was a story about Jesus being in the tomb. Theologians call it the “Sign of Jonah,” which is either this story or the fact that Ninevah repented, depending on which Gospel you read. Too bad Jonah isn’t around today to make another trip to Iraq. He seems to have had a knack at getting people to change their evil ways. Ninevah. after all, is just across the river from Mosul in Iraq. Anyway, I always loved the talking animal stories. As a kid I would stare at my dog and ask him, when no one was looking of course, if he could talk and just choose not to? We had a lot of those stare downs where I was pretty sure that he could talk but was mocking me with his silence. I felt that when I turned my back on him, he stuck his tongue out at me and smiled like a human, just for a moment. If he had walked away, I might not have felt that way, but when I looked at him, he looked back and stared at me as long as I stared at him. I knew he was thinking about whether or not to spring a well formulated sentence on me and then never do it again, just so I would know he could. Be he held onto his secret throughout his entire life. But still I knew he could talk if he wanted to. Animals talked in the Bible after all so it can’t be a unique thing, just a less chosen option. Here is a great story that I thought was really really true. It’s about the false prophet, Balaam who was told to curse Israelites in their desert wanderings, but always ended up blessing them, or something like that. He went on to become a symbol of all that was evil in other parts of the book. But Balaam at least knew what I knew. Animals can talk and it is not something anyone should ever doubt. Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab. But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road. So here it is obvious that donkeys can pick up on the vibrational frequencies that Angels of the Lord wiggle at, but humans can’t. How cool is that! This explains to me why my cat can be calm one minute and then running all over the apartment looking up and down and then running to another place checking out the wall. That cat is seeing Angels of the Lord in my apartment and I am just thinking the cat is nuts. Also, the donkey was only doing what a donkey does well…preserving itself. As noted in Wikepedia. “Donkeys have a reputation for stubbornness, but this is due to some handlers’ misinterpretation of their highly-developed sense of self preservation. It is difficult to force or frighten a donkey into doing something it sees as contrary to its own best interest, as opposed to horses who are much more willing to, for example, go along a path with unsafe footing.” So we know the Donkey saw something. No doubt the Angel of the Lord! :) Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two vineyards, with walls on both sides. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot against it. So he beat her again. The Angel of the Lord must have been guarding like one would see in a basketball game. Sword and hands all over the place to keep that poor donkey terrified and in a position now to bash ‘ol Balaam foot and get bashed herself again as well. I say don’t ever bash a donkey, and certainly not a female one. Maybe it’s only the female one’s that can talk and will if you push them. Mr. Ed could talk and I believe he was male, so we can assume that being closely related to the donkey, male donkies could also talk. Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat her with his staff. This is going from bad to worse for sure and for the third and final time, this extra vibrational sensitive donkey gets a good bashing and then the camel dung hits the fan. “Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, Hey! poop for brains!” No just kidding, but this must have been my problem with my dog. The Lord had to open Buffy’s mouth to speak to me and I know he wanted to, but wasn’t getting permission from the Lord to do so, so at least we have cleared that childhood disappointment of mine up. The dog was not himself messing with me. He just had not permisison to speak. And she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said. Well there you have it. A talking donkey was no biggie to Balaam. He never seems to miss a beat when she starts having a chat with him about these bashings. I don’t know about you, but had my Cocker Spaniel really said anything to me, I would have run yelping and screaming into the house and never gone near that dog again! Well maybe later I would have gone back to ask, what did you say, but it would have be really scary waiting for another answer. Balaam just has a great conversation with the animal as if they had talked a few hours ago over breakfast. Then the LORD opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown. The angel of the LORD asked him, “Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? Oh well, because she wouldn’t move, bashed my foot against a stone wall and then collapsed. All I really was looking for was an easy ride on this really nice road, Balaam may have thought to himself. However, once your eyes are opened to that extra dimensional vibrational Angel of the Lord frequency, it is best to just say, Sorry. I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me. The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared her.” Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, “I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back.” Numbers 22:21-35 (NIV) Well at least that explains this whole thing, Balaam might have been thinking but was wise not to say, although high frequency, extra dimentional Angel’s of the Lord know what you’re thinking too, so you can’t win. Evidently the only thing that saved Balaam from a good beheading was that the donkey could see the Angel. Now it doesn’t say that the Angel opened the eyes of the donkey, so we can assume that at least all donkies and probably all animals can see these things as a matter of fact and can talk. Sure explains a lot about cats. So Balaam is stuck between his talking donkey and a threatening Angel. There is nothing left to do but repent, which he does nicely. He does mention, much like we might to a police officer after being run into, that if he had seen the Angel coming too, he would have been more careful and respectful. So I personaly think if you don’t see the Angel and neither of your two servants see it, you are somewhat off the hook for the moment. As a minister we always kidded about how God could only get to Balaam by talking to him through his ass…Balaam’s not God’s…never mind. Well what’s the point? The point is that animals can talk…doi. The Bible tells me so. They just need permission. We can be assurred that when cat’s meow, dogs bark, snakes sssssssssssssssssss and donkeys bray, they are teasing us and playing with our sensibilities. I’m going to go and stare my cat right in the eyes now until he cracks and confesses that he has been able to talk all along. And when he asks, So, how did you finally catch on? I never really ever let on to you that I could talk. I will be able to say that the Bible betrayed him and all his friends, and things around the apartment will never quite be the same again. Greenhouse Kits - Where Do I Start?

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By Michelle Moore If you want to get your own greenhouse it can be easy to do. First decide how you will use it (to winter over plants, get an early start on seeds, grow cool or warm weather crops, or a combination), and find out what greenhouse will best work for your plants. There are many different greenhouse kits to choose so its important to read lots of information about greenhouse kits to make an informed decision and know your greenhouse is right for your area and your crop. When looking for a greenhouse kit, you will also have to consider size. Measure how big of space you have for the greenhouse (preferably in an area of your yard that gets southern exposure). You may be fortunate to live on acreage and space is not an issue. A majority of hobby greenhouse kits start at 8′x8′ or 8′x12′. Anything less than 8′ wide does not give you much room to work comfortably in your greenhouse. If you have a smaller space, there will be less kit options to choose from. You may need to consider a custom designed unit and look for greenhouse covering options. If you have never used a greenhouse before, you may find that a cold frame would work better for you until you know how you will use your greenhouse. It will be less expensive and you can use it during two seasons to let you grow a bit longer out of the year. This will give you the chance to see and learn how growing under cover can open up your growing possibilities. What you choose is up to you. There are many greenhouse kits and companies that are ready to help you along the way. You just have to get online and find a greenhouse that works for you and fits in your budget. Michelle Torres has nearly 20 years experience using and designing greenhouses and is an avid home gardener. In a B2B Environment, How is Lead Generation Different From Telemarketing?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Mark Brewerton There is much confusion in the minds of many B2B orgnaisations - particularly SMEs - about the distinction between lead generation and telemarketing. Many even quite senior business professionals do not understand the distinction and see the two as interchangable terms. This article sets out to try and help clarify this situation and draw a clear distinction between these quite different activities. The article is not an attempt to argue that one is better than the other, it simply sets out the main differences between the two activities. Lead generation campaigns consist exclusively of business-to-business outbound calling conducted by sales professionals with finely honed presentation and qualification skills and who are highly trained on the products and services they represent. Products and services are generally complex and high-value and they are marketed to high-level decision makers. Lead generation is an interactive medium. It is used to gather information, “qualify” prospects and generate interest. Lead generation identifies prospects worthy of a sales person’s attention by providing critical sales information, such as motivation for buying, common objections, the decision making unit (DMU), purchase process, interest level and key competitor information. In addition to appointmnet setting, effective lead generation activity provides sales people with the information they need once they are in front of the customer to close the sale. Telemarketing is not an interactive medium. In a B2B environment, Telemarketing campaigns are generally not used to gather information, qualify prospects or generate interest, but rather to sell such things as publication subscriptions, advertising space or exhibition space. Telemarketers most frequently represent easy-to-understand products and services and often do not receive extensive sales training. Presentations are frequently robotic and result in many ineffective calls. Volume not targeting is frequently the key to success. Easy Weight Loss: Four Weeks to Losing Weight

Monday, April 7th, 2008

By Alex Fir When it comes to losing weight, the best advice is this: take it slow. You should never try to lose the weight too fast. This is especially true if you have a lot of weight to lose. Losing weight quickly carries a huge health risk As an alternative, you should commit to small changes in your everyday life. - First week. Add some exercise to your daily regime. Do not worry if you do not have the time to go to the gym you can still take part. Go for a 15 minute walk every day after dinner. Just 15 minutes, but you must to do it every day. It is not an ambitious plan - anyone can do it. - Second week. It is time to concentrate on the health of your diet. Start eating fruit for a snack instead of chips or crackers. This is also a small thing, just one modified snack a day. However, if you do it everyday, soon it will start to have an effect. Here is the trick, though. During your second week, keep doing what you committed to doing the first week. So, during the second week, you are walking every day and eating fruit. - Third week. Eat a bit less. Here is an easy method to do it. For any food that you would normally eat, take away a quarter of it. Fill your plate and then take off a quarter of the food. Fruits and vegetables are exempt from this method. During the third week you will start noticing a difference in the way your clothes fit. Weight loss is starting to take effect, and it will only go faster during the coming weeks. Do not weigh yourself, however. Save that for the end, and you will be surprised. - Fourth week. Stop eating fried foods, if they are something you usually consume. Consider walking instead of taking the elevator, or you can park your car several blocks away from your office and walk the remainder. The idea is that it all adds up. There is no need to make huge changes in your everyday life. After a while, the little changes will make a big difference. Do you need to lose weight? Natural Skin Care

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

By Celia Namart Natural skin care is not something modern, in fact it is the most basic skin care methods known to men, a long time before we were watching television commercials that showed us elaborate scientists explaining how their new formula had made a breakthrough in skin research and skin care humans have been using the things that grow around them as remedies for skin problems and found many herbs and plants that helped the skin to look better, younger and healthier. It is not surprising that most of the people on earth will be more suspicious of a chemical product that has been developed in laboratories and tested on animals time and time again, while science has made human life what it is today it is still fighting many battles with understanding the way that the skin works and the needs of the human skin, not to mention the features and qualities that human skin has. The need for skin care products is on the rise and that is a direct result of more and more people in the world have problems with the effects the chemical skin care products, while it is true that many others enjoy the same chemical skin care products there are many others that have serious problems with it. The battle for a better skin in fact a fight to balance and nurture the skin, the human skin is effected from its environment, and the modern life has also a heavy toll on the health of our skin, the products that are on the market for skin care are in fact balancing products that aim to restore the main qualities f the skin and strengthen it in order to protect it from the damage that is inflicted on it daily. The advantage to the natural skin care products is that the scientists that make these products do not use any chemicals so the risk that the person using the product will be sensitive to it is relatively low, even though there are some people who are extremely sensitive and can not use even a natural and non chemical skin care products, but these are very rare in the population.
